Based on Ubuntu and the KDE desktop environment, Kubuntu 15.10 Beta 1 Wily Werewolf has now been released for testing. Termed as a new milestone in the development cycle, the recently released distribution has already grabbed a lot of eyeballs. Both Plasma and KDE Applications play a very crucial role in the running of this distribution.

The previous release had a short note which stated “The Kubuntu team is committed to releasing 15.10 in October. Updates, bug-fixes and future releases are currently uncertain.” However, there is no such explanation in the current iteration which has given rise to speculations that issues might have resolved between the Kubuntu team and the Community Council.

As anticipated, Kubuntu 15.10 is all set to come with KDE Plasma 5.4. Being a derivative of Ubuntu, Kubuntu is released along with it and its packages share the same repositories. While K represents the KDE platform, the rest of the name remains the same. While the first beta release in the Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf development cycle is out, all its derivatives including Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu MATE and Kubuntu have received a major overhaul.

“We are preparing Kubuntu Wily Werewolf (15.10) for distribution on October 22nd, 2015. With this Beta 1 pre-release, you can see what we are trying out in preparation for our next (stable) version. Plasma 5, the next generation of KDE's desktop has been rewritten to make it smoother to use while retaining the familiar setup. The fourth set of updates to Plasma 5 (currently in beta) is the default in this version of Kubuntu,” reads the official announcement.

Though Kubuntu 15.10 Beta 1 Wily Werewolf is available for download and can be run as a Live CD, it still includes bugs which have not been fixed yet.
