Emoji are a fun way to spice up your text messaging conversations but are not immediately available on all Android phones and devices, but a quick trip to the Google Play store can fix that
What are Emojis?
If you don’t already know, emoji are simple picture icons which originated in Japan, but have become universally popular across the world. The most basic emoji is a smiley face, but others such as a heart and the food emoji have become very representative of the emoji style. Follow these easy instructions to start putting all sorts of different emoji into your messages.
Accessing Emoji on your phone
The official Google Keyboard has supported Emoji since October 2013 on Android 4.4 and higher. If your phone meets those requirements, all you need to do is bring up your messaging app and start a new message. If you are using Google Keyboard an Emoji shortcut is already available. Simply tap on the smiley face icon to bring up a grid of emoji characters. Swiping left or right will reveal even more. If you do not see this icon, then follow these easy steps to install a keyboard that supports emoji:

Step 1 of 3

Go to the Google Play store and download the Google Keyboard to your phone.
  • Once the app has downloaded and installed go to your messaging app and pull down your notification panel.

Step 2 of 3

  • Change your current keyboard to the official Google Keyboard.

Step 3 of 3

  • Your new keyboard will have a smiley face icon, tap it to access a grid of extensive Emoji options
Also note that if you are using a Samsung phone, then you are most likely using the default Samsung Keyboard, which also includes full Emoji support, although it can be a little trickier to find. To find emoji, you will need to open an app that uses your keyboard. Once your keyboard opens, press the microphone or gear button located next to your space bar. You will now see a smiley face icon, tap that icon to find a full selection of emoji icons.
