Apple offers users 5GB of free space, but this free space is offered as per Apple ID not as per devices. The iCloud storage is used to accumulate photos, videos, device backups and much more. It’s possible you may be running out of storage. Either you can purchase more space from Apple or you can free out some space in iCloud. Here are the different ways to free up space from iCloud:
EXAMINE THE SPACE
To know how much space is occupied by your data on iCloud, open settings on your iPad or iPhone. Then select iCloud and click storage then Manage Storage.
WIPE OUT OLD BACKUPS
Your backup takes most of the space in the iCloud Storage. If you have backups from the old devices that you no longer use then you can delete that backup and free the space in your iCloud Storage. Click on backup and scroll to the bottom and tap the delete backup.
ADJUST BACKUP SETTINGS
It’s possible that you may be backing up items that you don’t really want to store to your iCloud. You can adjust these according to your preferences. Go to settings and tap on iCloud. From here you can choose which item you will like to be saved to iCloud. If you find something you don’t really care about then flip the switch to off to delete the data. This will also make sure that it isn’t backed up the next time you perform backup.
SUBSTITUTE PHOTO SERVICES
The easiest way to free up a lot of space in iCloud is to delete photos from your backups. Rather than storing photos on your iCloud, you can use one of many third party cloud services that offer even more free space than Apple. Like Google Photos offers unlimited storage for free. There is also Yahoo’s flickr app, Microsoft One Drive, DropBox, and Amazon Cloud Drive.
